Somerville, MA – ItaliaRail, a train company stationed throughout Italy and Europe, has just announced they are offering up to $1,000 in scholarships for students who are planning on studying abroad in Italy for the spring 2014 semester, according to this press release.

Out of all the students who will apply, only two will be selected for the scholarship. The application can be found here.

The deadline for the application will be this upcoming November 15 and the two winners will be announced during mid-December. Students who are interested in applying for the scholarship will have to meet some of the following requirements:

*3.0 GPA or higher at a recognized U.S. university or college

*Receiving financial aid

*Possess an overall dedication and enthusiasm for studying abroad in Italy

This has not been the first time ItaliaRail offered scholarships to students. The two awardees Taylor Hammeke from the University of Connecticut and Justine Barker from Michigan Technological University were offered $1,000 for books, tuition and miscellaneous fees regarding their studies for their fall 2014 semester.

While both students are currently finishing up their study abroad, it seems both of them are enjoying their time there.

Mike Fuller, CEO of InterRail LLC (parent company of ItaliaRail), said in the press release that he was glad to see that the program is gradually building up attention. He said they received three times the number of applicants for the inaugural scholarship award.

“We are excited to choose two new awardees for Spring 2015 and to see so many excellent students dedicated to, and inspired by, participating in a study abroad program in Italy. ItaliaRail is pleased to help those in need of financial assistance realize their dream.”

Currently stationed in the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada, ItaliaRail launched their website in 2004 to give travelers the easiest, most affordable and accessible service available to ride the Trenitalia Rail Network, which is Italy’s only national railway.

Travelers are able to purchase tickets on the ItaliaRail website using any type of currency. ItaliaRail offers knowledgeable customer service agents that are always willing to answer any questions that passengers might have.
